Swaying bridge
A swaying bridge can be dangerous. It is important to solve the vibrating problems of a bridge. Flow Engineering can add additional damping to the bridge to prevent it from swaying, or reduce the movement. We have more than 20 years of experience in the design, installation and calculation of Tuned Mass Dampers that can be applied to various slender structures such as bridges, chimneys and flagpoles.

Preventing the swaying of a bridge by adding additional damping
We are specialized in analyzng and solving vibration problems in existing structures and the manufacturing, installation and maintenance of damper systems. Cross-wind loads, also known as vortex shedding, can cause bridges to sway. The shaking of a bridge occurs when the damping is small and the vortex shedding frequency is close to the natural resonance frequency. By letting Flow Engineering add additional damping to the structure, this can be eliminated. We use Tuned Mass Dampers, that can not only be the solution for a swaying bridge due to vortex shedding, but also due to wave vibrations. Tuned Mass Dampers also form protection during an earthquake.
