Turbine Tower Spain

Spains first prototype offshore wind turbine (5MW), has been installed at the Arinaga Quay in Gran Canary Island.

The nacelle with a weight of 72 tonnes measures over 12.5 metres long and is 4 metres tall and wide. The 62.5 metres long blades, each with a weight of 15 tonnes, are the longest blades ever produced and transported in Spain.

To reduce the effects of vortex shedding, that may arise on the erected tower during the time elapsed between the tower erection and assembly of the nacelle on top of the tower, a tuned mass damper with a moving weight of 3 tonnes was installed on the tower.
